How Can I Help at Home? Thursday, October 19, 2017. High School; Adult Learning Center (ALC). This session will focus on the reasons why math instruction looks different than when you were in school. It will provide resources for parents to use at home to help students achieve success with the curriculum.
Focus on Fluency Thursday, November 16, 2017. Errick Road; room TBA. This session will focus on the concept of fluency; what it is, the grade levels students are expected to reach fluency benchmarks and how you can help your child with facts at home.
Addition and Subtraction Thursday, January 18, 2018. Colonial Village; room TBA. This session will focus on strategies that grade k to grade 2 teachers use to develop a conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction in the early years.
Multiplication and Division Thursday, February 15, 2018. Tuscarora: room TBA. This session will focus on strategies that grade 3 to grade 5 teachers use to develop a conceptual understanding of multiplication and division.
Fractions Thursday, March 15, 2018. West Street; Room TBA. This session will focus on the development of fractions from grades k to 5. Participants will learn methods to compare fractions, find equivalent fractions, add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions.
Word Problems Thursday, April 19, 2018. West Street; room TBA. Participants will learn how tape diagrams can help students to solve word problems with ease. Leave this session being able to use a tape diagram to solve a problem like a professional.
Getting Ready for School Thursday, May 10, 2018. Colonial Village; room TBA. This session is for families with students entering kindergarten in the fall. We will focus on fun literacy and math activities that you can do at home with your child between now and the fall to set your child up for success in grade k.
